The course covers managing and using the correct equipment, classic cocktail mixing and practical applications of the theoretical content. On completion of this course, students can continue onto the Advanced Mixology and Bartending certificate.

The Introduction to mixology and bartending course provides students with the knowledge and understanding of how to prepare classic and modern cocktails and to present them to discerning clientele. This course covers everything from the history of cocktails, methodology of preparing drinks, practical pour routines, spirit infusions, making and storing syrups and how to prepare and setup your bar station.

This is the ideal add-on course for bar staff, baristas, yacht stewardesses/stewards and hospitality seeking to improve their knowledge of drinks and serving drinks. Students will discover a whole new sector of creativity as we guide them through the world of mixology using internationally recognised training techniques and ingredients.

Course Structure

The cocktail and bartending course provides students with the knowledge and understanding of how to prepare classic and modern cocktails and to present them to discerning clientele.

This course covers everything from the history of cocktails, methodology of preparing drinks, practical pour routines, spirit infusions, making and storing syrups, and how to prepare and setup your bar station. The course also forms the first portion of the Advanced Mixology and Bartending course.

Course Duration

The 2-day training prepares candidates for both the theoretical and practical elements for final assessment.

Course topics

  1. History of cocktails – Basic history of the cocktail.
  2. Health & hygiene behind the bar – how to work safely and hygienically behind the bar.
  3. Basic Spirit production process – understanding of how spirits are made.
  4. Practical pouring & accuracy – learn how to pour accurately & correctly.
  5. The bar arena – looking at the different areas of the bar, what is found in them & what is important.
  6. Basic Garnish prep – how to prep various garnishes for cocktails
  7. How to on – easy homemade syrups
  8. How to make some easy flavoured syrups.
